Aromatherapy Massage is a Swedish massage therapy using massage oil or lotion that contains essential oils (highly concentrated plant oils).
During an aromatherapy massage, these essential oil molecules were inhaled or absorbed through the skin. They are thought to promote beneficial changes in your mind and body by affecting the limbic system, a region of the brain known to influence the nervous system.
Use of therapeutic essential oils in massage is being explored for the following conditions:
• Dementia symptoms
• Menstrual pain
• Supportive care for people with conditions such as cancer
Therapeutic Interventions for Musculoskeletal Injuries
Musculoskeletal pain is pain that affects the muscles, ligaments, tendons, and bones. The causes of musculoskeletal pain are varied. Muscle tissue can be damaged with the wear and tear of daily activities. Trauma to an area (jerking movements, auto accidents, falls, fractures, sprains, dislocations, and direct blows to the muscle) also can cause musculoskeletal pain. Other causes of pain include postural strain, repetitive movements, overuse, and prolonged immobilization. Changes in posture or poor body mechanics may bring about spinal alignment problems and muscle shortening, therefore causing other muscles to be misused and become painful.
The therapist will recommend a treatment plan based on your diagnosis and the severity of your symptoms, such as physical therapy, occupational therapy or both.
SwedishMassage/Deep Tissue Massage
Swedish Massage is the most commonly offered massage technique, utilizing a firm pressure on the muscles. Is given to increase blood circulation, easing the tension in the body’s muscles and improving the muscle’s flexibility. It stimulates the skin as well as the nervous system to soothe the nerves, and reducing both emotional and physical stress. It also helps to increase the flow of oxygen in the blood, releasing toxins from the body’s muscles flushing the lactic acids, uric acids, and other type of metabolic wastes out of the body tissues.
Deep Tissue Massage is a type of massage that aims at affecting the deeper tissue structure of the muscles. It also affects the connective tissue, known as facia. This type of massage helps with both small muscle injuries as well as chronic problems, is also an excellent way to deal sports injury, postural misalignment, treating spasms as well as muscle tension.
Tui Na Massage
The term Tui Na, which literally means "pinch and pull," refers to a wide range of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) therapeutic massage and bodywork. Tui Na is not generally used for pleasure and relaxation, but rather as a treatment to address specific patterns of disharmony. This type of massage is one of the most popular TCM treatment modalities and is frequently used in the treatment of superficial trauma and injury and a wide variety of musculoskeletal problems.
Reiki emerged in Japan in the late 1800's and is said to involve the transfer of universal energy from the practitioner's palms to their patient. According to practitioners, energy can stagnate in the body where there has been physical injury or possibly emotional pain. In time, these energy blocks can cause illness. Energy medicine aims to help the flow of energy and remove blocks. Also improve the flow of energy around the body which can enable relaxation, reduce pain, speed healing and reduce other symptoms of illness.
Reflexology is a type of massage that involves applying different amounts of pressure to the feet, hands, and ears. It’s based on a theory that these body parts are connected to certain organs and body systems.
When people feel stressed, can cause an imbalance in the body that leads to illness. Reflexology aims to keep the body balanced and disease free.
Reflexologists believe that their touch sends energy flowing through a person’s body until it reaches the area in need of healing.
